Dates 2026
THE GLORIOUS MESETA:
Where the Sky Meets the Soul
a 10-day organised hiking tour for the second segment of the Camino Francés, the renowned pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
This itinerary covers the journey of approximately 170 km (105 miles) from Burgos to León. This section is distinct for its passage across "The Glorious Meseta," a high plateau offering primarily flat terrain, making it one of the most physically accessible parts of the entire French Way.
The experience starts with a detailed welcome tour of the highly important Burgos Cathedral. The path then leads across sun-drenched plains and endless horizons, passing historically significant sites such as the ancient sanctuary of San Antón and the impressive ruins of Castrojeriz Castle.
A significant focus is placed on the distinctive regional gastronomy, where pilgrims can savor hearty local specialities like succulent lamb and pork, alongside unique delicacies such as wild mushrooms, partridge, and local trout. The region of Castilla also offers a memorable array of traditional pastries and desserts.
The route is noted for being extremely well marked, following trails between villages and quieter roads, with daily walking distances matching the established pilgrimage stages (etapas). Though primarily flat, a reasonable level of fitness is still recommended.
The tour emphasizes restful sleep, with accommodations carefully selected for their charm, high service quality, and location near the Camino, often utilizing authentic rural farmhouses and manor homes.
Full logistical support is ensured, including all necessary luggage handling and transportation. A support vehicle is available daily, offering access to essential items and emergency assistance.
The journey is framed as an invitation for connection and community, attracting a diverse group of international travelers who forge lasting friendships through shared experiences and a deep appreciation for the Meseta's unique landscape, profound history, and heritage.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
Part 2 of the Camino Francés is considered one of the easier tours on the Camino. While it boasts some of the longest-distance days, the terrain is mostly flat. Having said that, we still recommend a decent level of fitness and we encourage you to prepare by taking some long hikes beforehand. The distances we plan for you are the same as the typical stages of the Camino. As far as navigation is concerned, this part of the Camino is very well marked and follows mainly trails, paths between villages and some secondary roads.
